(New York, New York) — Shakti, the leading high-performance parallel data platform, announced today the appointment of Abby Gruen as Chief Operating Officer. In her new role Abby will focus on ensuring operational excellence across the organization and help drive the company’s growth agenda.
Abby previously worked at Kx where she was CMO for the past six years, as well as working at Kx when it was a new startup in the 1990’s. Abby began her career on Wall Street as an analyst for Financial Security Assurance and subsequently became a journalist working for newspapers including the New York Times, and as a business reporter, most recently at SNL Financial, now known as S&P Capital IQ.
Created by Arthur Whitney, who also developed the programming languages a+ , k and kdb+/q, Shakti offers a uniquely designed platform that allows it to manage any type of streaming, in-memory and historical data, whether structured, semi-structured or unstructured. As a result, developers using the platform can work with the whole spectrum of data points, from stock prices to social media data. It is also exceptional for its small footprint and lack of dependencies.
Central to Shakti is the concept of parallelism. The platform is parallel down to the lowest level, with a distribution model that extends to multiple jobs and machines. This small footprint and lack of dependencies translates into quicker deployments for developers working with code on premise and in the cloud. It also helps support cutting-edge security features such as hashing, two-way encryption and digital signature.
Shakti President Janet Lustgarten said: “We are very excited to add Abby to the Shakti family as we are poised for strong growth in 2020. She is a proven executive with a track record of inspiring and motivating her team to meet and exceed organizational goals. Abby brings a deep knowledge of the marketplace for Shakti having been involved in sales and marketing of Arthur Whitney’s software for many years. We see her as an integral player in fueling Shakti’s next chapter.”
